Last lesson

It is always a challenge to teach something at a student's last lesson.  I don't want to send home any of my music with them and starting a new song that they will not practice seems like a waste of time.  This morning I had a final lesson with a student and I taught him to play "Heart and Soul".  He loved it and I am pretty sure he will play it again.  Maybe this will be my new final lesson plan.

My Big Day

After 6 months and hundreds of hours of practice I gave my recital on December 27, 2013.  I wanted to to soar with Rachmaninoff, Schumann, Chopin and Brahms one more time and I was able to.  My family was all there to support me and many friends and some of my students.

2013/2014 Studio Schedule

Welcome back!  I have been busily planning for a great year.

Recitals:  The morning of December 7 will be the Christmas Open House.  I hope every student will participate on a team for this.  Individual students will be featured between teams.  This is always a fun event.
The Spring recital will be May 12.

Master Classes:  This year we will study music history in Master Classes.  I have some fun activities planned.  I am hiring a dance instructor to teach us the minuet.  And we will experience chance music by writing a song using dice.
                          Oct. 12, (Saturday) Classical Period
                           Nov 15, Baroque Period
Feb 28, Romantic Period / Impressionistic Music
                           Apr. 11, Modern Period
Team Festival: November 2
If you haven't tried a piano team yet give it a try.  Playing piano is such a solitary activity.  Joining a team adds a social experience and it's fun!!
AIM:  May 3
Aim stands for Achievement in Music.  I am a firm believer in the Aim program.  For a nominal fee of $20 a student is evaluated in ear training, technique, performance, theory and a creative music project.  It is work, but I feel my aim students progression is worth the extra effort.  There are other programs such as Federation, or Young Artist Competitions, but this is the one I feel is the best.  If you are interested let me know early in the fall so I can give you the requirements for your level.  When you pass the level you get an awesome medallion.

Lesson schedule:
Monday:  begin on Friday, August 26
                             No lesson days:  Sep 2, Dec 23 & 30, Jan 20, Feb 17, Mar 31
There will be a crazy lesson day on Tues, January 21.  Come at your regular time
                                   but on Tuesday.
